WEEKLY BACTERIA SAMPLING:
Sample Retention for Verification

When submitting samples for weekly bacteria analysis, the IBWA's latest model code revision outlines the following proceedures.

All IBWA members should be pulling five bottles from the same batch or production code. One bottle should be analyzed for TC and SPC. The other four bottles should be held until confirmation that coliform and e.Coli are absent.

If coliform and/or e.Coli are detected in the initial sample, additional samples should be taken from each of the four retainer bottles for analysis of coliform and e.Coli.

This procedure should be followed on samples analyzed by your in-house analyst as well as samples you send to an outside laboratory.

The purpose of the four retainer samples is to allow bottling companies adequate documentation in the event of sample collection or analytical error resulting in false positive results.
